Ingenious Ideas!!

The Nepalese are coming out with multitudinal ways of demonstrations (Julus). Here are some interesting ones:
  • Hatti Julus
  • Dohori Julus
  • Nangai Julus
  • Mundan Julus
  • Maun Julus
  • Masal Julus
  • Sanketik Julus
These are ingenious. Here are some that is guaranteed to offer additional values:
  • Water Julus (Demonstrators carrying water 'jerkins')
  • TV Julus (Carrying television sets)
  • Money Julus? mmm?
  • Acrobatic Julus (performing stunts like mobile human pyramids)
  • Relay Julus (Individuals passing logo-bearing batons to others in different strategic locations)
  • Crawl Julus
  • Mobile Julus (oh, wait... most already are)

in more civilized societies, symbolism in protests are often what deal the decisive punch. gandhi's satyagraha had all kinds of symbolisms including the whole charkha campaign. but in a sorry country like ours, these things obviously are treated like "kaag karaundai garchha pina sukdai garchha". that is why people feel the need to resort to conspicuously violent acitivities just to be "heard" to be "acknowledged" as having a legitimate cause to protest.

but anyhow, this being a lighthearted blog and you being a funny man, i am not entirely sure how seriously you are asking these questions but i can definitely make sense of some of these creative ones that you list.

here's how i look at them and i might be wrong:

1. mundan julus - we all know why males in this society shave off their heads. by taking out a mundan julus, the youth might be pre-empting the king to vacate his throne or else face circumstances that may force them to shave their heads. a hunch.

2. dohori julus - i saw one on tv last night and it really touched my heart. even some policemen who were watching were finding it difficult to conceal their amusement and even approval i would say of some of the messages. and what better way to really get a large group of nepalis rallying for a cause than the good old dohori?

3. hatti julus - this does sound a bit bizzare but i would suspect that this might be the mahouts coming to their streets to show their own solidarity. people in chitwan have come out with their farm implements and all, so the mahouts might have decided to bring out their own "gari khane bhaaandos".

4. one other creative julus i saw was that brought out by the doctors. it was a large group of whitecoats walking BACKWARDS!

so yes, i think some of these do have value added....
